Coconut husk is part of the coconut fruit that is endocrine, hard, and coated with coconut fiber. This part of the coconut is generally used for crafting materials, fuel, and making coconut husk briquettes.

Coconut husk briquettes are one of the alternative sources of energy derived. It is from biomass residues to reduce dependence on fossil energy. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of the produced coconut husk charcoal briquettes and to test the technical tests of the used briquettes. Test results show that the capacity of the press used is 302 briquettes/hour.

The resulting briquettes have a water content of 5.37%. The water content of the briquettes complies with the SNI, which is < 8%. The average density of the briquettes is 11.23 g/cm3. The highest compressive resilience value is 1.4 N/m². The carbon content value reaches 97.14%. This shows that the briquettes produced are of high quality due to their high carbon content and low ash content. The calorific value created is also very high (>5000). That proves that the quality of the produced briquettes is very high, so this coconut husk briquette can be used as alternative energy by the people of West Sumatra.
